What that means in practice

Unlimited users

No seat count, no audit of who logged in, nothing that punishes putting the software in front of the whole company. A hosted plan is sized for a number of people, which is a statement about the server it runs on — never a limit on who may sign in.

You pick the environments

Three covers development, test and production. Departments, a sandbox or a training environment are additions at a fixed price rather than a new negotiation.

Lapsing is not switching off

On the Power Apps product, renewal buys updates and support, and what you purchased keeps running whether or not you renew. The hosted Platform is a subscription: it runs while it is paid for, and your data is yours to export when it stops.

Questions people ask before buying

Why is it priced per environment rather than per user?
Because per-user pricing taxes exactly the thing you want — putting the software in front of everybody who would benefit. An environment is also the thing we can identify honestly, so what we sell and what we can enforce are the same thing, which is a better place for both of us to be.
Why is the minimum 3 environments?
Development, test and production. That is what anybody doing serious application lifecycle management needs before they have built anything, and pricing a single environment would be pricing a setup we would then advise you out of.
What does renewal buy?
On the Power Apps product: updates and support. If a renewal lapses, the version you purchased keeps working — you do not lose the software you bought, you stop receiving the next version of it. The hosted Platform has no separate renewal: the monthly or yearly charge is the subscription, and it runs for as long as it is paid.
Monthly or yearly?
Either, on the hosted Platform. A year costs ten months — two free — and is billed once; monthly is billed every month and can be cancelled from Billing at any time. Both are per plan, not per environment, and both include the environments the plan names.
What happens to our data if we stop the hosted subscription?
It stays yours. Export your solutions and your records before the paid period ends; after it, the environments are switched off and, after a grace period, removed.
What counts as a user?
Nothing does. Makers, end users, occasional approvers, people who only ever open a report — all unlimited, in every licensed environment.
Then why does each hosted plan say how many people it is sized for?
Because it runs on a server, and a server has a size. The number is what that hardware comfortably carries — about 50 people on Team, about 300 on Business, 1,500 and up on Enterprise — assuming a tenth of them are working at the same moment. It is not a limit and nothing enforces it: we watch the headroom and tell you before you feel it, and moving up is a plan change rather than a bill for heads.
What if we need more file storage?
Each plan includes an allowance — 50 GB, 250 GB, 1 TB — and more is $25 per terabyte per month, or $250 a year, bought with the plan at the checkout. Most companies never reach the allowance: a few hundred documents a month is about half a gigabyte a year.
How is the hosted service backed up?
Twice. The server is snapshotted daily, and a separate encrypted copy of the database is taken every night and stored away from the server that made it — kept seven days on Team, thirty on Business and Enterprise. Both are in the price.
Can we add environments later?
Yes, at the per-environment price for your plan. A licence names the environments it covers, so adding one is a re-issue.
